Character Profile: Terra (DREAM)

[This post will not include *major* spoilers for Dream. It will include fun facts and trivia that won’t necessarily make it into the novel.]

Basic Stats

Sex: N/A (Her people reproduce asexually)

Gender Expression: 100% Feminine. Hyper-Feminine.

Pronouns: She/Her/Hers

Age: 20

Race/Ethnicity/Culture: Terra is an Otherworlder, or Extra-Terrestrial. She came to Earth from her home planet in order to learn more of the humans she admired. 

Her people completely lack a culture. They don’t have names, genders, or wear any sort of clothing. A hive-mind in every sense of the word, they have absolutely nothing that differentiates them from one another.

Until Terra, that is.

Height: 9 Ft. Even

Body type: Tall and slender

Appearance: Terra has gray/silver skin that sparkles in the right light. She usually wears long, glittering wigs and tight cocktail dresses. Her eyelashes are white, while her large, almond-shaped eyes are black and shimmery. 

Tattoos/Piercings: She has magnetic earrings that dangle beneath the holes of her ears (she doesn’t actually have ears). They are modeled after the planet Saturn, and glow.

Relationships

Family: Terra’s parent doesn’t understand her gender identity. When she was a child, she tried to explain it to them as best as she could, but it never went anywhere. Her parent was just hoping that it was a phase that she would grow out of, and would eventually take her place among her people. The ‘phase’ just grew and grew, until Terra couldn’t hold back anymore.

Friends: Terra cares about everyone that was locked in Halcyon with her, but she is exceptionally close to Khaldun.

She’s the ‘mom’ friend in every sense of the word. Unfortunately, she can’t take care of her friends as much as she would like to, as there is something in the atmosphere of Halcyon that she is severely allergic to. Thus, she must stay in her flying saucer, waiting for her friends to visit.

Sexuality

Orientation: Asexual

Attraction: N/A

Skills: Since her people have nothing in the ways of fashion, she has learned to make wigs, clothes and accessories for herself. And she’s gotten exceptionally good at it over the years.

Hobbies: Terra loves learning about all the different human cultures of Earth, seeing how different they are, and how they are the same. 

Sometimes, when she’s alone, she pretends that she’s a model walking down a catwalk. 

Personality and Character

Terra is kind, accepting, and loving. She won’t assume anyone’s pronouns, and openly asks for them upon meeting. 

Goals/Dreams/Aspirations: In the short term, Terra just wants to escape Halcyon, and go to the mall with her friends, or to the cinema, like a normal human. That is what she is mostly looking forward to.

In the long term, Terra would love to make her people understand the beauty of art, fashion, and individuality. She knows this is nigh impossible, as they have existed in their ways for thousands of years, but she still wants to try.

Beliefs: Surprisingly, Terra’s ancestors and Khaldun’s ancestors knew one another. Because of this, her people know and revere the almighty Isis as the creator goddess that she is. This did little to impact their culture, however.

Fears: Terra is afraid of her parent never accepting her. She doesn’t mind that her people think she’s a freak. It’s her parent’s opinion of her that matters, because she loves them, and wants them to be proud of her.

Insecurities: Terra is quite confident in her appearance, and there is no question about that. What she is insecure about, however, is her personality. She tries her best to be there for her friends as best she can, but it always seems like they only visit her when they need something. It isn’t as though she doesn’t like being the ‘mom’ friend that takes care of everyone, but it would be nice if her friends acknowledged her hard work.
