Character Profile: Decebal (DREAM)

[This post will not include *major* spoilers for Dream. It will include fun facts and trivia that won’t necessarily make it into the novel.]

Basic Stats

Sex: Male

Gender Expression: Masculine, but old school masculine, which is a bit like new school feminine. He is very posh and debonair. 

Pronouns: He/His/Him

Age: 18

Race/Ethnicity/Culture: Romanian Vampire

Decebal is the prince of the Valentine clan. Having been born and raised in such a high class of vampires, he is very gallant and gentlemanly. One thing he is not, however, is uppity. Unlike his parents, he doesn’t have any problem with races outside of his own, and loves nothing more than to befriend all sorts of people.

His family - and most other modern and civilized vampires - have adopted a law stating that they cannot feed on humans unless they consent. And turning a human is more or less a marriage proposal.

Height: 5′8″

Body type: Decebal is toned, but altogether thin. 

Appearance: He has blood red eyes that never seem to have any light in them at all. His thick, full hair is flaxen, and shaved on the sides and back. The prince is always dressed as if he is going to some sort of fancy ball. A pair of leathery bat-like wings spreads forth from his back, allowing him to fly. He has perfectly groomed facial hair. His ears, like all vampires’, are long and pointed, with multiple sharp lobes. 

Tattoos/Piercings: Absolutely none. 

Relationships

Family: Decebal adores his parents, but wishes they would come out of the dark ages. They refused to let him play with any children outside of his race as a child, but do not consider themselves racist. Sometimes Decebal disagrees, but still does his best to honor his father and mother.

Friends: Decebal absolutely loves all of the other victims of Penumbra. He’s never met anyone he dislikes - even Blackheart! This is mostly because the captain is the only fully human locked away in Halcyon with him, and is more than willing to let him suck his blood.

Sexuality

Orientation: Bisexual

Attraction: The vampire prince is attracted to intelligence and moral fortitude. His ideal mate would have to have a warm heart, and enjoy helping people. He doesn’t mind what race or gender they are.

Skills: Decebal can fly through the air with ease. He is quick-thinking and agile. What he lacks in physical strength he more than makes up for in courage.

Hobbies: The prince loves to sit in the study of his haunted mansion and read the countless tomes that have been passed down through his ancestors. He also enjoys a good adventure with Mizu and Theodore. Now that he is stuck in Halcyon, however, most of his time is spent protecting his parents’ mansion, which was sucked through the portal as well. Countless monsters are attracted to it for some reason, and are more than inclined to try and destroy it.

Personality and Character

Decebal is the living personification of chivalry. He will always be a gentleman, and a kind, giving person. There isn’t a bitter bone in his body, and although he is more than willing to protect both himself and his friends, he doesn’t see a reason why Penumbra should die for her crimes.

Goals/Dreams/Aspirations: Decebal wants to get back home, and return his mansion back to his parents. It’s ramshackle state will undoubtedly disappoint them, but hopefully reuniting with their only child will more than make up for that.

Beliefs: The vampire prince follows the ways of the Mother. This is Lilith, the Mother of Vampires and Goddess of the Shadows. Much like the mythical folklore of vampires themselves, however, her story has been exaggerated and darkened over the years, demonizing her by those who follow the Abrahamic rites. 

Instead of a ravenous, sex-crazed man-hater, the Mother is just that - a mother. She is caring, nurturing, and loving. Adam was just bitter.

Fears: Decebal is terrified of disappointing his parents. It seems as though he is destined to do just that, however.

Insecurities: His pale skin, red eyes, flaxen hair, thin build - to him, it’s all the makings of a monster, and he doesn’t wish to scare anyone
